Financially ready or not, how long did you wait after marriage to have a baby??? Or did it just happen???

My family waited about 2 years but I want to hear other people wait time.

Thanks so much!!

Yours is not an odd choice. Your cousins have the belief that living together with a baby is a committment. It isn't There are plenty of stats that show a very large section of folks will have split before the child enters kindergarten. That just makes for an unstable life for the kid. What I find interesting/appalling/disappointing is people who have the baby and then have a WEDDING, often the same year? They go into debt for thousands of dollars for what? Envy? Why don't you just get married? What do you need this blown out affair for, money of which you could use to pay down your home (or put a down payment on). I realize some don't get married first because they can't get Medicaid, but I just don't believe that is the majority. Yes, I am puzzled. My cousins also have children and have never been married, but they don't make fun of others choosing otherwise. I just don't understand the mentality.

Hubby and I were married for 6 years before we had "the talk." As a few other people here stated, if you wait until you are "financially ready" you will wait forever. Our reason for waiting - we wanted to enjoy being a married couple. We could stay out late, play hockey, go on last minute trips, long vacations, etc. any time we wanted. Our only responsibility was to ourselves. Early on in our marriage (I'm younger than him), I viewed having children as "sacrificing" too much; when I decided that having a "mini-me" running around wasn't a "sacrifice" then I knew I was ready. And as for the finances - we both have stable, decent jobs. The bills get paid no matter what. You add a child and you just find a way to make ends meet (i.e. not eating out once a week to save the money for diapers and formula; forgoing birthday gifts, christmas gifts, no fancy-shmancy vacations to the Cayman Islands, etc.) You'd be amazed at the money that you just kinda "blew" and never thought about it before kids.

So, it was less about money and more about "me" - he was ready and I wasn't. I wanted to have our "play time" before we decided to settle down with children. Now that I have my nugget, I wouldn't trade him for all the vacations in the world! LOL

Some people wanted to conceive but not able to. If both of u r healthy and ready, juz go ahead. Y must wait till u r financially ready.

We r married when we were 21. It juz happen after a year of marriage.

I actually did it a different way... I got pregnant after 6 mths of meeting my boyfriend at the time and we got married when our son was 9mths old.. We have been happily married for 4 years and we just added our final addition; our daughter in July... I wouldn't recommend this way to my children or anything, but that's just how it happened with us.. As to your question, you and your husband need to do what's best for you... Waiting a couple years after marriage would probably be best.. Just so you have time to be married first... Good luck to you and Merry Christmas
