I worked until the end of November, and then my term of employment ended until next March. I am about to receive my first unemployment check. In January, I will be officiating high school volleyball games, which is considered working as an independent contractor. There are some weeks where my check will be more than my unemployment check. My question is, can I still collect my unemployment check while I am earning money as an athletic official? The schools don't take taxes out or pay into the unemployment fund, so I am unsure. Please help!

Your unemployment check will be reduced in proportion to the amount of income you receive.

You must report any compensation you receive for services performed during the time that you are receiving unemployment.

Visit the Michigan Dept of Labor website for more details.
