Companies pay a huge amount of money to have their publicity runned on specific TV air time. I imagine that out of this income, TV stations actually pay for the right to air a specific program. So if a series or any other show has really good ratings, advertisers are willing to pay more for their adds to appear during that show and the series price goes up.

For example, one of the most expensive show to run and add is the Superbowl, and trademark cs such as Budweiser take this time to air their latest publicity. I believe 30 seconds of commercial time during half-time for the Superbowl are rated at several million dollars.

No, but they hope you buy the products advertised. Commercials pay according to the ratings shows receive - a commercial on a number one show would cost considerably more than a commercial on a lower rated show. In fact, the Super Bowl, which is generally the highest rated program each year, charges $1 Million and up for one minute of advertising time.

Advertisers pay to have their commercials run between the breaks in the show...the better the Nielson rating (number of viewers) the higher a television station can charge for advertising during that period. The non-pay channels pay a fee for each show they show on their station, thus, how T.V. shows make money. For pay channels the stations usually pay a lump sum fee for the show or show rights then pay residuals each time a show is aired.

Companys pay to have commercials about their product shown, we in turn buy..Why do you think Super Bowl charges so much for a few seconds? and for BIG bucks . The more people that watch, the more that is purchased. Plus I am not a Bachelor of Science and Motion Pictures.

definitely advertisements!

the better (popular) the tv show, the more popular ads youll see.

companies like, coke and pepsi for instance will pay big money for someone to air there comercials with the show. also, a show will sometimes say "sponsored by......." and that right there, is means of money :)

The ratings drive how much companies must pay to advertise on the show.

But other than commercials, if you watch 'American Idol', 'So you think you can dance'.... Lots of people vote for their favourites to win, right? And they don't just vote once, they vote big time and each text message aren't cheap! That, my friend, is how they make $$$ money.

In my ruined country, TV shows obviously depend on on-air commercials/advertorials, which can take one third of the total show duration. Annoying but informative,though...
