Hello again. I've worked with plants so I get the general idea of putting things in water right away after a fresh cut. But for some reason my Fraiser Fur does not seem to be too thirsty. We cut a good 5" off the bottom, the tree itself seems fresh, not losing many needles at all, but has hardly drank any water. I'm keeping it cool and away from the heat. The tree hasn't been up for 24 hours yet. Does it take more time than a regular plant or flower to draw up into the tree? I thought It drank the most during the first 24? Help - love my tree!

Give it a day or two. If it was frozen it will definately take two days to totally thaw out. Not drinking after three says, start to worry.

Christmas Tree Drinking Water

Me too!! I bought my tree at the home depot on Sunday, Dec 17th. They cut 2" off the bottom, and then my husband cut an additional 1" off the bottom about 3 hours later. Without delay, we set it up in the stand, and filled the base. Now, having dealt with cut trees all my 38 years, I checked the water approximately 2 hours later, as this would have NORMALLY been the time to add more water. Alas, it was full. Full the next morning as well. After 24 hours of the water level not going down, I called the home depot, thinking that MAYBE, it was a Fraser Fir thing (it's my first Fraser) and was told to add a can of Coke, NOT diet, to the water. So I did. Now, it's 48 hours later. The water level STILL has not dropped! I won't decorate the tree, as I'm sure I'll be returning it tomorrow. So, try the Coke....unless you've already returned your tree, or it fixed itself. Please let me know if you figured out the mystery!!

I don't think trees drink a lot of water I know we only refill the stand like twice a week and it's not empty when we fill it just lower...

It most likely set for a long time not able to drink water so it will most likely dry out pretty fast now.

It's dead now, it doesn't need to drink, just slowly drop all it's needles.
