Hippies did see the truth. Thats' why for the last 20/30 yrs their lifestyle and thoughts have been denigrated and demeaned. Capitalist don't want us to see the truth they want us to pretend that all of life is about money. Life is about caring, sharing and love, but this is a threat to the consumer society; so we've been portrayed as idiots. The last feeble hope for the world is that people will again see reality and try to live a life based on love for all things; human, animal, nature and the world.

To be politically correct is the best form of self-preservation these days. As per your example, if a person were to go into how to skin a cat, several people would report that person for advocating cruelty. If a person said that's just sick!, then they run the risk of being reported for rudeness. Sadly, it's not only on internet forums that people have to do this. It's everywhere in our society. No one wants to offend anyone else so they word their answers as carefully and neutrally as possible. The upside is that no one gets overly offended. The downside is that it diminishes the value of getting real answers and opinions.

Because it's easier than getting into the gory details of how one can actually skin a cat.
