depends on what kind of catfish there is a million of them but if your talking about the kind in the wild they are cheap but i will warn you now they are not compatable with ANYTHING they will eat anything that they can fit in their mouths and with the rate that they grow it won't take long before it a pretty good size fish. If you are talking about some of the other more peaceful cats go ahead just stay away from the channel cat and things like that.

Because of the wide variety of catfish available, what kind will depend mainly upon what size tank you have. If 55 gallons or smaller I would opt. for cory cats, like mentioned above. If larger than 55 gallons I would suggest pictus cats. Very active fish that do best in groups, three or more. Also great for eating leftover food that sits on the bottom of the tank.

What do you mean by 'catfish'? Many fish are called cats, but I think corydoras catfish would be probably be your best choice. They go for 1-3$ each and you should get at least 4 of them (julii is a good type), as they are schoolers. They eat excess fish food, are very cute, small, docile, and active. Tank minimum would be 20 gallons.

Look into any of the corydoras species of catfish. These are smaller fish that are fairly active during the day so you'll get to see them.

They are peaceful and shouldn't cause problems with any other fish in the tank.

I have an albino Cory catfish. He is a bottom feeder and is a nice addition for my tank. I think I paid under 5 bucks for him!
