Depending on the make and model tune-up frequency and what they involve will vary. Most services are oil changes every 3000, rotate your tires every 6000, and then every 15,000 is where you start to get into a lot of variance from car to car. There is no longer a "Tune-Up" at most quality shops because they very so greatly. Older cars required a tune-up every 30,000 that included plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, and capacitor. With the exception of plugs all of those components are slowly being phased out. Most cars are also using platinum or iridium spark plugs that are good from 60,000 to 100,000 and in a few cases beyond. If you take your care to a reputable shop with A.S.E. certified mechanics they will be able to tell you exactly what your car needs.

it depends on what type of car you have. The owner's manual will explain all of the required service maintenance items and intervals. Most newer cars come from the factory with distributor-less ignition so there are no distributor caps, rotors, and sometimes even no spark plug wires. If you take your car to get the oil changed, they will check your air filter for you. Fuel filter should be changed every 30,000 miles on a fuel injected car. A lot of cars now don't have an external pcv valve to change either, but if it does, replace it with the fuel filter. Everything else is designed not to be changed as preventative maintenance. If in doubt, take it to the dealership and they will be able to tell you what needs to be replaced.

If your vehicle is 1995 or newer, chances are your spark plugs are platinum, and intended to last about 100-160K depending on the make. A good mechanic can do a visual inspection for carbon build up around the throttle, and give you an idea as to it's needs. Older cars require it more frequetly, but it's cheaper.

This all depends on the manufacturers recommendations. Some vehicles require a tuneup every 36,000 miles. Both of my General Motors cars require a tuneup every 100,000 miles. You should check the owners manual or your dealer if you are unsure.
