It's so fashionable to be anti-American and foreign news media are so unabashedly anti-American, that a lot of people would claim not. However, the many millions of illegal immigrants as well as legal guest workers and foreign college students and businessmen, professors, doctors, scientists, etc. (including the perilous risk-taking like the coast guard guy says) proves many do.

Additionally you may have noticed one of the major complaints against the US is how difficult it is to get a visa and how rude are the functionaries involved in that. That's not an issue unless you're trying to get here.

I work for a European company, and one thing I've noticed on trips to HQ is the large number of co-workers there who've told me they've tried to immigrate or get transferred to the US!

In the end I think it's the same as always. A lot of people inclined to be independent, daring, and risk-taking would like to come to America. A lot of nanny-staters who want to be coddled, don't.

Yes, indeed they still aspire to come into the USA, and this still the land of opportunity , however the ones that I know are now of a different mind, they start to find things wrong, and complain, about the Americans, and the way of life, become greedy and self centered. It is amazing! Perhaps the melting pot takes time.

As a veteran of the Coast Guard, I can tell you that I have personally witnessed Haitian and Cuban migrants floating on tiny rafts off the coast of Florida trying to get to the United States. The fact that illegal immigration has been such a huge deal in the news lately should give you some clue as to the answer to your question.

Americans certainly seem to think so and I'm sure some do (at least temporarily) but with so much anti-Americanism around in Europe, it's less than people think. I personally don't know anybody who wants to move there permanently but a lot of people would like to holiday there or work there for a while, myself included.

I don't aspire to come to America, I'm happy in Europe. Don't like the politics in the UK but like US politics even less.
