Well, ask the question this way: If the Senate was 52-48, how big would the Tim Johnson story be? It would be MAYBE a 1:00 package on the news when the story breaks, a :30 after his surgery, and a :10 reader for status updates. Certainly much more time is presented, because it is a much bigger story. Sen. Johnson's illness has severe political ramifications not only for the citizens of S.D., but the entire country. All of the democrats' proposed changes and reforms will likely not take place; judicial nominiation review will be vastly different; senate oversight of the president will be vastly different.
Sure, we all care very much about Sen. Johnson's health, but the _news story_ is about the majority. You can't blame the media for reporting on it.

It's pretty heartless to be only concerned with the majority. I have seen both conservatives and liberals who seem to be only concerned with that, though. We absolutely wouldn't be hearing so much about it if there wasn't the chance to change the majority, though.

Both. Probably more concerned about the majority, however.
