There are a few good law review articles at Emory and at Yale about that. I don't know a lot about it, so you're better off looking at various law review articles. However, you might also want to look at Williston's "On Contracts". It's a very good Hornbook and devotes much to the doctrine of promissory estoppel. Also, you may wish to check Prosser and Keeton to see how promissory estoppel and other Tort actions are related.
