You should change it out now and make sure you clean it before during and after changing it and you should also wash your hands first. You should put a stud in (diamond or tiny ball) so you can turn it . After you put the earring in you should leave it in for 6 weeks. Turn it twice everyday and clean it at least once everyday..peroxide will work. If you decide to change it before 6 weeks is up then change it quick and make sure you keep it very clean, but you really should keep it in for the whole 6 weeks. Hope it works out for you.

I did that about different 6 times and I never left the safety pin it. I always pulled it right out after I pierced it and immediately put a sterilized hypoallergenic stud in. I then cleaned and turned it just as if it had been done professionally. Then I'd leave the stud in for as long as possible, usually over a month. Change it asap but it's probably going to hurt more now than if you had done it right away. I never had an infection from using a safety pin but I was really lucky.

That was stupid. Never use a saftey pin! You use a piercing stud, because...well it's a piercing stud and that's what they're used for!
If it's your ear lobes, these take 6-8 weeks to heal. If it's your cartilage this take 4-6 MONTHS to heal. If you take the pin out in the process and try to put an earring in, there's a good chance it'll close up in the process. If not then it'll just be a worse infection for you.
Whether you pierce it yourself, or get it done professionally, your ear will still get infected, contrary to the statement from mickey g above. But if you use something other than an earring to pierce them and then switch it out with an earring, this will irritate the hole and cause a worse infection. When I had mine done professionally when I was little, they still got infected, and the infection was worse than when I do them myself.

yikes!!! you should have put the earring in immediatly as you pull out the safety pin. now its going to hurt like hell probably!!! lol. i dont know what kind of earrings you were planning on, but if its a ring type (not a stud) follow the safety pin back out while pushing the earring in from the back, then follow with a nice huge dose of rubbing alcohol, then keep it VERY clean because piercing it yourself usually helps lead to infection (i doubt you took many precautions to keep everything steril - no offense or anything)
once you get the new earring in, whatever kind it is, leave it in for about a month- 6 weeks, just to give it time to heal. if you've never had a piercing before, make sure you rotate it a few times a day so that it doesnt start healing to the ring, and keep it clean and crust free (dont go touching it with dirty hands). keep in mind, even if it gets infected, leave it in!!! just keep squeezing the pus out and putting alcohol and hydrogen peroxide on it

convinced, taking them out for some seconds will make a large vast difference. in case you try this, you may repeirce your ears in case you ever opt for to position in earrings again. do no longer take them out. in case you do, there is an 80% threat that they're going to get contaminated. you may wait yet another 4 weeks (a month) to take out your earrings. then you actually can put in all the lovable earrings that you opt for. desire I helped! sturdy success! :)
