Gouramis are egg layers which mean they cannot be pregnant.
However thay can be gravid, which means they are full of eggs and waiting to lay them. You can tell this because their abdomen will be very swollen and you may see an oviposter. The oviposter is a small tube that extends from the abdomen and is used to deposit eggs.
However as Zoe stated most petstores only sell male gouramis as they are more colorful than females. You can sex gouramis by looking at their anal fin. In females it will be distinctly rounded while it males it will have a slight point to it.

Gouramis cannot be pregnant. They will develop eggs and may have a slight swelling in the belly, but it is not particular noticeable.
It is also quite possible that you have a male - many gouramis sold in petstores are males, because the females are not really colourful.
For gourami breeding, it is typically the male you have to keep an eye on. When he is ready, being a cousin of the betta, he will 'squeeze' the female causing her to release her eggs, and he will fertilize and tend to them until they hatch.
If you are interested in breeding your gouramis, do some research on it. It's not very difficult, but there are certain steps you have to take for it to be succesful.

Gourami's are egg layers, they are not livebearers, I believe. I used to have 10 fish tanks yrs ago. I believe they are in the cichlid family which makes them egglayers. If you would enjoy having fish that give birth to their young, you'll need to buy some fish like Guppies,Swordtails,Platys,or Mollies. There are others but these are the easiest to find and easiest to care for.

Usually when my fish is pregnant she is against the side of the pond or if in a tank against the filter or heater allot the fish will be a bit bigger than usual and the male will chase other fish away from her to protect her. that is what my fish does

Zoe is right, but if you do have a female, and she is laying eggs, and you want to breed them, the way to do it is cut a yarn mop and place it in the tank. You do this by winding yarn around a book, board or other such object, tying one end, and cutting the opposite, so it looks like a tassel. stick it in the aquarium (it floats) and she will lay her eggs in it. They stick to the yarn, and she's less likely to eat them before they hatch.
