There's a lot of talk now about stopping Iran, and a few years ago, they talked about Iraq. But why didn't anyone try to stop Pakistan, India, and Israel?

Western intelligence agencies failed to highlight nuclear weapons development in the three countries. Furthermore they did not sign up to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, so even if it was known, there is very little the governments could have done about it.

Also it was not in the interest of the US and other developed countries to stop the three countries, as Pakistan and Israel are strategic allies in the middle east. India is a huge economy and to sideline that would mean allowing the Chinese and the Russians to take control.

There was a lot of resistance to the idea of India or Pakistan having nuclear weapons. But really there was little anybody could do about it.

As for Israel, they have offered no proof, have conducted no tests and have said nothing with regards to either having nuclear weapons or using them. They don't talk about eliminating other nations and have never started a war.

As for Iraq, let's not forget that they used a lot of WMD against both Iran and against the Kurds. They supported terrorists and had attacked other countries. UNLIKE Israel, India or Pakistan.

Iran supports terrorists, and the Iranian president says things like "Death to Israel", "Death to America" and "Israel must be wiped off the map". Only a fool would not take these threats seriously. These are irresponsible people who would unleash the horrors of nuclear weapons against others for some misguided cult. Again, UNLIKE Israel, India or Pakistan.

There are significant differences here, readily seen by anyone who cares to appreciate them.

We devoloped nuclear weapons and no one stopped us, now if we say that were are the only country that deserve to have nuclear capabilities, that would highly be an injust comment. We gave nukes to Israel when Israel wasn't under a nuclear threat than Pakis developed nuclear weapons in a response to India who was threating their existance and Iran is doing it because of Israel. If you study the cycle you will understand that everyone developed nuclear weapons for their own interests. We gave Israel Nukes and now we have the Middle East wanting nukes as well. We can't just brush it off saying that we are the only responsilble country that deserves to have Nukes.

Well thats the sad reality of today's world. In fact, there are South American nations getting nukes and puzzled why on earth US is not bugging THEM! they are dumbfounded that their nukes program is in full throttle and iran which claims its nuclear program is safe is getting bombarded with all the threats. this is one wacky world we are living in.

doesnt it bother you that israel is the only state that can get away with killing millions of civilians, use all sort of brutal opposition and drop banned chemical bombs over lebanon and still get away merely by a VETO in the UN Security Council by AmericA?!

consider this that according to reports, proofs and evidences, the 9/11 drama was a zionist plot to attack the muslims.. (why on earth were almost all the jews on a holiday on 9/11 as suggested by various reports?!)

consider also this that israel is still existing only cuz of US and UK. it was created only by their help.

consider also that israel's nuclear program was kept EXTREMELY secret until a worker at the plant himself came out and revealed israel's secrets..

consider also that israel is the ONLY country that is free from all checks and scrutiny about the american aid and weapons that it consumes..

how weird and biased can the world get.. its just the beginning..

and oh yea.. pakistan and india? no big deal.. they have their nuclear plants open to iaea inspections (unlike israel) and in fact iran also had allowed iaea inspectors inside its plant and only stopped them recently due to the american attitude..

the indian and pakistan nuclear program is far safer and definitely the least of threat to the world..

Of course not...Actually US helped them develop nuclear weapons...
It's called hypocrisy...US gives nuclear weapons to the countries surrounding Iran and tells Iran not to build a nuclear weapon...Nice message US is sending to the whole world...
Iran,by signing the NPT has the right to have nuclear power, unlike Israel,India and Pakistan who refuse to sign it...More no one can prove that the are building a nuclear weapon...
Iran does not agree with US policies, does not agree with Bush,so they have to be a danger for all the world...since it seems that Bush decides who is good and who is bad in this world...

Iran would not have nuclear applications era, by using fact they bankroll and ideologically help what we (U.S. & powers that be) describe as terrorism. it may be fairly uncomplicated to deliver in a small nuclear gadget decrease than the a hundred's of klashnikovs to Hezbollah or HAMAS. Iran is greater companies than Pakistan or India to do such issues. Pakistan and India are the two allies, Iran is unquestionably no longer.

In relations with all the above states the proliferation of nuclear weapons has been a central element.

"Since the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, the U.S. has wrestled with the issue of controlling the spread of nuclear weapons. The U.S. military imperatives of preventing other countries from developing the ultimate weapon have conflicted with the political, economic, and commercial potential of selectively sharing its nuclear secrets"

This quote is true for any of the nuclear powers not just the US.
It has to be put in a cold war context.

China developed nukes with the help of USSR.

In 1962 China India fought a border war, which India lost.

In 1974 India which had refused to join the NPT exploded a "peaceful nuclear" device.

Shortly after the loss of East Pakistan in the 1971 war with India, Bhutto initiated the program with a meeting of physicists and engineers at Multan in January 1972.

India's 1974 testing of a nuclear "device" gave Pakistan's nuclear program new momentum. Through the late 1970s, Pakistan's program acquired sensitive uranium enrichment technology and expertise. The 1975 arrival of Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan considerably advanced these efforts. Dr. Khan is a German-trained metallurgist who brought with him knowledge of gas centrifuge technologies that he had acquired through his position at the classified URENCO uranium enrichment plant in the Netherlands. Dr. Khan also reportedly brought with him stolen uranium enrichment technologies from Europe. He was put in charge of building, equipping and operating Pakistan's Kahuta facility, which was established in 1976. Under Khan's direction, Pakistan employed an extensive clandestine network in order to obtain the necessary materials and technology for its developing uranium enrichment capabilities.

Pakistan achieved it's nuclear capability with the support or conivance of Europe US and China.

The US Government passed laws and imposed sanctions against both countries.

US politicians and other world leaders make statements saying that possession of nuclear weapons by State X is unacceptable.
The REALITY is that they do not have the means or will to prevent it.

The uninformed and naive public of Western countries are thus the last to know that State X has the weapons.

That part of the political spectrum that seeks to blame their politicians for these events are either naive and/or engaging in partisan politics.

Yes. Israel had to steal nuclear material to get their weapons up and running. Pakistan and India have hated each other for a very long time and once the British pulled out they went back to their old hatrids. They were quite good at concealing their progress. So far they only threaten each other. So far both have shown some common sence and not used those weapons.

Just because Pakistan and India have atomic weapons, that is no good arguement to allowing Iran to develop such weapons. Iran has clearly stated that they plan to destroy a sovern nation and to attack America. Iran is run by individuals who wish to cause great distruction. They are religious fanatics and not stable. They need to be killed and their atomic program destroyed before they attack anyone.

They said that they want me (American) dead and I believe them.
I want them dead before they can kill me.
Period.

Why should anyone stop them from having nuclear weapons? We develope nuclear weapons everyday and no one is stopping us. It is not our business to interfere with another country unless it directly affects you. If somebody want to develope a nuclear weapon thats none of my business and to be honest people have had nuclear weapons for may years. South Korea has been developing nuclear weapons far longer than any other country.
