If she receives no punishment for doing this , then she will keep on doing it.
If the group home will not reprimand her, tell the cops and see if anything happens, which it probably won't since she is only 11.
Right and wrong should be instilled in all , and even though she is Mildly Retarded, she can still be taught between good and bad behaviour.
You did very well by confronting her, and reporting it to her group home. I commend you for having the courage to do that.
A lot of people would have just said oh forget it, she's retarded and that is the wrong attitude. She is still a human being and needs to learn right and wrong ,love, and discipline.

This happened to me. I deal with a lot of kids whom are diminished capacity. Most of them are teenagers, becoming adults(just turning 21, so many are uncontrollable, wanting to party and have fun)
One kid spent the night over because the next day he had to go to Portland(maine), the next day I realized many items were missing. Cigarettes, a nice zippo from boston, and practically all my change from my change jar!
However I cant call the cops on him, and the next time I saw him I brought it up to him. He is no longer welcome here if he can't control his urges.
And that is the situation with you. You cant completely blame the girl, because of her mental state she does things without realizing it is wrong. Even if she knows it is wrong, her staying in that room gave her the illusion that it was her home, and all these nice things in the room she could have for herself.
I would however bring it up to the agency. Just explain items have gone missing because of her, and next time if it is her or someone else that is visiting your home...you must keep an eye on them.
If you get the chance talk to the girl, hopefully she isnt so incompetent that she will be able to understand. And remember that its christmas season, so be nice.

I think I would report it the group home so it wouldn't happen again, but I don't know if I would press charges. Your daughter got most of her stuff back and 20.00 and some feminine products aren't worth calling the cops, but again, I would let the home know.

Go to the agency and have them look into it they would be able to locate the items in question give them a list.I'm sure that the girl will get careless and leave an item out or use it.I have a sister the same way, downs syndrome and that's what we look for.Not knowing right from wrong.

I don't think you should call the police over twenty dollars, but perhaps you should report the girl to the people who run the home she stays in. If she is only mildly retarded she should still be held responsible.

Grass her up, she probly isn't even retarded.
These fraudsters will try any trick to get into your home
If she really did nick this stuff, how do you know what else she has stolen from whom? You have a responsibility to nail her..you got lucky, what if she stole something of priceless sentimentality to another retard? That would be absolutely aweful...

Let the group home handle it they are trained for such things. Remember she has an illness but that is no excuse. They are much smarter than people give them credit for, it's just due to the illness they are unable to communicate in a way that we understand.

You need to talk to her caseworkers at the Group Home. I used to work for one and we had issues like that arise all the time. They don't want you to call the cops, but they will do what they can to make things right- USUALLY. If they don't, then yea you need to call the cops.

Mentally ill or not, she needs to learn that stealing is wrong. I don't know if the police should be involved, but you should try to help this girl in the right direction by speaking to who is an influence in her life.

Sneak into her room one day when she's not there and nail all her furniture upside down to the ceiling.
