Suggestion...Marketing Claims that are made by big companies are easy to test. Most 20oz soda bottles have a 1 in 6 chance of winning something under the cap. Test out a few different brands. Toilet paper double/triple rolls vs. regular rolls. Is the double roll really double the amount of a single roll? Count the sheets. Be sure to get the same brand for your experiment. This may be above 8th grade level, but you could test the permeability of an egg. Drop an egg in a glass of vinegar. Wait 24hrs until the eggshell comes off. Remove the egg and put into a glass of distilled water...wait 24 hrs. Remove the egg and put into a glass of concentrated salt water...wait 24 hrs. Take pictures and record your findings. What happened?

If you go to your library they will have books and books on this topic. You can also probably access the library from your computer and either reserve a couple of books or have them sent to your branch. I would also try Googling the topic. But if you want to get a prize, think of something original. They've seen a lot of volcanos. Think of something in which you are interested. What would you like to find out? What is your theory and how can you test it? In what are you interested?

The easiest thing to do it to go to the supermarket and find a few products you want to compare. Grab some detergent and see which one gets grass stains off the best. Grab some bread and see which one gets moldy the quickest. Maybe a soap scum remover and a bar of soap and see which one cleans soap off of tiles the best. Watch any commercial where they make claims about how well their product works. Challenge those claims!

My son is doing his project to see what type of water freezes faster...hot water or cold water.
It's pretty simple and there's not a lot of messy things to set up for your display, just takes some pics and make a lot of notes.
Good luck on your project!!
