As an ex-exterminator this is what I found. They are extremely adaptable. They can live anywhere and find a foodsource. Any simple starch will do. The only thing that makes me doubt the end of world sceneriois that all cockroaches I know need a heat source, they are a tropical insect. I could be wrong and would appreciate any info that refutes this.

I'll tell you a gross story about cockroaches. I was working nights in a large psychiatric hospital which was full of cockroaches. they came out at night, and one night our nursing officer came round and chased one. he stood on it and squashed it right by my chair.. It's splattered body was by my side throughout the shift. The next morning I took a close look in the day light..as you do, thousands of babies were crawling away from the body. Apparently they still hatch out even when the mother is dead..
They say you should never stand on cockroaches because the eggs stick to your shoes. I can believe that...
