I don't know if "bury" is the right word, but there are many mistakes made not only by surgeons, but by many health care providers in all fields, as well as insurance companies who decide if tests and procedures can be done.....Example: My mother has a small hole in her heart....There is a procedure that can be done, that will seal the hole, and it does not require surgery, but the health insurance company will not pay for it until she has a heart attack..............the procedure will prevent a heart attack and possible stroke..........now that is a problem...not only for her, but for many others......and it could be a grave mistake when it comes to her......The issue with doctors is that they cover for each other so well in so many ways....Take a surgeon who makes a big mistake....Try finding another surgeon who will testify against him....it will be very difficult.....Try finding a doctor who will admit their mistakes.....no way...........The health care industry, yes I said industry, needs a major overhaul when it concerns checks and balances....There needs to be specific boards that evaluate mistakes and poor judgement, (yes there are such boards, but they work for the doctors, not the public), that can help the public weed out doctors that continually make bad choices, or make bad mistakes and this board needs to spill over into the justice system.......There needs to be local hotlines in every city that tells of these doctors so you don't go to them, eventually their practices would dry up and they would go out of business.....There are many good physicians out there paying outrageous malpractice insurance fees for the doctors that make all the mistakes, I'm sure they would like to see something done, but they will not buck the system because they need the insurance to practice medicine....and there you go: it is called the "PRACTICE" of medicine.....not the art of medicine, or the science of medicine. Where does it all begin to change, how do we make it change, all good quesions that I don not have the answers for................Very good question on your part..............

Yes I think they have too. If they dont then the victim of the oops during surgery - can sue for loads of money. So the surgeon would bury the mistake.

The one who worked on my Mother-in-law did!
A person with Diabetes only lives about 3 years with only one kidney.. The Doctor did a hysterectomy on her, and cut the tube going from her kidney to her bladder, and simply let the kidney "die" in her... well, after three years, she died a horrible death....(drowned in her own fluids)...
If I had only known, I would never have let that doctor perform his butchery on her...I would have taken her to a different "meat market" and let them cut on her instead... :)
I wish you well..
