Actually, I'm not sure that the electorate has let it happen, at least not consciously. It is so difficult to find balanced current affairs programs to listen to or watch these days. You get shows (yes, shows, because that's all most of them are) which are slanted one way or the other and have a token guest from the other side. No realistic debate.
Politicians (not just in the USA mind) love sound bites, without any meat. The media loves sound bites because that's all they allow time for. Again, there is no real substance.
Personally, I have always voted for a candidate who makes an effort. In the UK, I voted for the Official Monster Raving Loony Party once, just because the candidate made himself visible and the others expected to get their base to vote for them without any effort. Now, the USA is more problematic. That is where the write-in vote is a valuable tool. Can you imagine the fun if the local elections board had to announce that the largest number of votes cast was for Mickey Mouse as a write-in? Of course, in most localities, that would not actually get Mr Mouse elected, but it might give the moribund, complacent parties a kick up the backside and encourage them to actually campaign.
Thanks for the question. I feel a lot better now.

Well, I'm not so sure the percentage is as high as you think. I once read a poll about how citizen's of various countries would accept an occupying invasion, and USA was the highest percentage who would fight. That was a few years back, but I think when you get right down to it, Americans will stand up for something.
Actually, a good argument could be made that the publics behavior as "sheep" is what makes them strong. But I suppose what you're really talking about is the average informed intelligence of the American public. Yes, I agree they are manipulated extensively by the liberal media.

Percentage wise would be difficult if not impossible to pin down. And most of us know that even poll numbers are a bunch of BS. Why they let this occur is basically a weariness of the spirit. Between work, family and all that goes to support it they get their information from whatever source they can squeeze into their limited time. And that time is bombarded with how they should think...commercials, special interest, and of course the most political astute people of Hollywood all come together and hammer their thoughts into the America's mind. Someday the mind weary America majority are going to take the hammers away and start hammering back.

I feel we are in an in-between era right now, when we are all consciously coasting and indulging in what leisure time we can. It's like the 1950s. We are held between two thoughts: 1) we may be blown up at any minute and 2) might as well enjoy ourselves.
Our pundits are fools. Our cultural standards have fallen into the bucket. The criminals go unpunished; people seem to be able to get away with anything. Madness, in the form of world war and economic instability, seems imminent. If it isn't the end time, it sure is "my brain hurts" time.

The "Dumbing of America" index is directly proportional to George Bush's popularity in the U.S. Currently, George Bush's approval rating is at around 24%. So, the Dumbing of America is 24%.
"They do let that happen to themselves" becuase the Americans are usually very trusting, particulaly of the authorities. The greatest con of all time, Israel, is has exploited that weakness and is taking advantage of this population.
America now fully understands that what was told to them was not the truth. However, they do not yet understand how a foreign government like Israel can hijack the US policymakers and the decision makers. As soon as they do that, the earth will see so much peace that it wouldn't know how to handle that.

I asked "Do you reside via people" and that i had to assert "Do you reside vicariously via others?" I replaced it because of the fact i presumed no one could answer a question with a 5-syllable be conscious in it. LOL. no longer that peeps right here are not clever, yet P&S is for a rapid fix no longer a dictionary-searching debate.

The majority of Americans are not buying into the "dumbing down of America" theory. People who want to be informed, are informed. I think that people like you in foreign countries are much more likely to believe this crap than any thinking person in the United States. Foreigners are always willing to buy into any anti-American propaganda thats out there. I think its part of a terrorist plot. You and people like you should pay more attention to whats going on in your own borders and leave average Americans out of your political hate mongering.

The percentage would be a random guess. I would look at the numbers of people that still support Bush. I think the hierachy that we set up that coincides with capitalism conditions the psyche to bow to whatever they consider the leader. And I also think that anything that we don't have to fight for is taken for granted. Unfortunately democracy is something most of us were born with, did not have to fight for, and could not imagine not having.
