Isn't being able to ask (& answer) questions like that a PURPOSE of Humans??
Also: Seeing as the only creator(s) we ever meet and know (in a purely physical sense) are our parents... ask your pops :-)

Finally, if YOU don't define your OWN purpose; whose word will you accept in answer to this question?

BTW: what is the PURPOSE of Frogs or Rain or Limestone; if we are talking about living things then the PURPOSE of anything with DNA is reproduction and survival...

Your question contains two unwarranted assumptions: 1, that there is a "great scheme of
things" and, 2, that every species must have a
purpose. The only purpose human beings have is
the purpose they each give to their lives.

For some reason people seem to think they are
such wonderful creatures that surely there must be
some transcendent purpose to their existence,
that they are too marvelous just to live a few years
and die, ceasing to exist. We are too glorious just to disappear forever. The Greeks had a word for this attitude - hubris. Anyone who
exhibited it was ordinarily destined for some
horrible fate.

Great question... We have evolved to a higher state of consciousness then any living creature (who's gonna mention the bl**dy dolphins?!) and so have changed our path of evolution. We have cars so we dont have to run fast/long distances. We have computers so we dont have to calculate so quickly and we have Sky (or any other generic digital TV receiver) to reduce our IQ. Humans have always been scavengers. A parasite on the planet really. We're like a virus, and Nature WILL attack. It always finds a balance

Why does their always need to be a PURPOSE?

Why can't we just be a human being instead of a human doing?

Humans remind me of one of those chinese finger puzzles - the more we do, the more we get ourselves into a tight spot we barely squeeze out of.

If you want a PURPOSE, here is one:

Life is what you make of it - it is a gift - do with it as you please.

What great scheme of things?

Seriously, there is no such thing! Therefore to talk of purpose is irrelevant!

As with any other species on earth, the purpose of humans is to make more humans.

To develop quicker than any other species, whilst doing so wipe all the other species of the planet and destroy the world...and we are doing a very good job of it too!
