An introvert is a brooding, introspective person focussed on his own thoughts and emotions. An extrovert is attuned to other people and is not preoccupied with his own thoughts and emotions. It is possible for the same peson to be an introvert and an extrovert at different times in his life, though that is rare.

A Introvert, when used non-technically, usually means a shy, unsociable person. Psychiatrist Carl Jung defined introversion as a turning of mental interests away from people and events of the outer world to the inner world of ones own thoughts . He believed that in a normal person, introversion is balanced by extroversion . But in an introvert, the tendency toward introversion is greater than toward extroversion. Jung thought that if the tendency toward introversion became extreme, it would dominate a person's unconscious mental life and create a conflict between the two tendencies. This conflict would result in a neurosis, which is a kind of mental illness. You can also check out the link about socializing an introvert:

Introversion is "the state of or tendency toward being wholly or predominantly concerned with and interested in one's own mental life". Introverts tend to be quiet, low-key, deliberate, and relatively non-engaged in social situations. They take pleasure in solitary activities such as reading, writing, watching movies, inventing, and designing. An introverted person is likely to enjoy time spent alone and find less reward in time spent with large groups of people (although they may enjoy one-to-one or one-to-few interactions with close friends).

Well, I am introvert. Introversion means how much stimulation I require and from where.
I do not require a lot of stimulation from an "outside source." My power ( or energy) comes from within me, and what I can bring to society. Society does not shape me. It may try to, and that's what I find draining. I shape myself with my own thoughts and what I value. I listen to people and value their opinions. But, I do not change myself to "fit in." I make up my own mind. Also, what I do, does not become part of my identity. I may teacher, or paint and that's what I do. But, not who I am. This was a Good question!
