It's only about 1 year old. It was right the middle of running and I opened the door - when I turned around it was dead. No power, no light, nothing.

I tried flipping the breaker switch but it's like there's no power getting to it.

Any ideas? Surely a microwave wouldn't die after a year of use.....

Try plugging something else in the outlet that the microwave uses... If that device works, than you blew the fuse that protects your control board... This fuse is usually very cheap to replace... You need to unplug your microwave and remove the top grille... behind that grille you will see a screw that holds the control panel in place... unscrew the control panel and on the back you will see the fuse... It looks like the ones that they used in the old fashion cars... Buy a 20map 250v ceramic fuse... These work the best...

plug a lamp or radio into the outlet in the cabinet above the oven. if it works you are getting power to the outlet and the trouble is with the oven. if it doesn't the trouble is with the circuit breaker in the panel. check in the owners manual and see if it mentions a fused protector in it. or call the help number in the manual. good luck, happy holidays!

Look in the cabinet above the microwave. There should be a plug for it.
Try looking for it.
99% of the time that is where it is. If not, you have a warranty if it was new. Who installed it?

Try unplugging it and plugging back in..
Also - search on the web for your brand/model - there may actually be a fuse within the microwave...
