Ethnic fashion, the world over, had been worn millennia before the British Empire gave us their button-down shirts, tailored trousers, coats and frocks etc. As far as men's fashions are concerned, little has changed. Women's fashion has, on the other hand, evolved considerably.

I was just thinking, wouldn’t it be nice if, for example, Indian, Chinese, Javanese, Native American, Central American, or Persian fashion could be the main fashion, for a change? Of course there are many other wonderful cultures out there. I can’t possibly list them all.

Well, for every conservative person out there, I'm sure there are many others who want adventure. Your answers, please.

I think it would be nice. Though, if you look at trends in the past few years, there has been some ethnic allusions.
For example, the tunic was the Westernized word for the modified Indian top called a "kurti" [pronounced KOOR thi] and Indian stlyed flats became very popular for a while as well.
Lately, Chinese and Japanese inspired shirts and dresses are become a part of trendy fashion.
So, yes, I would like to see it, but I think that the pieces should be inspired by culture, but not completely identical because then I feel that the area that the style is from will kind of loose its individuality and culture.
I hope that answers your question.

Well, I don't think that ethnic dress really goes out of style. I have bought and worn Pakistani dresses for formal functions because they are so pretty.

In fact, while all the other girls in my Senior class were wearing prom dresses that were strapless (and some backless), I was fully covered in a wonderful white silk and silver number that had all of them totally envious. I had guys lining up to ask me to dance.

I know a lot of my women friends now that have Chinese chiang soms, and Javanese wraps. The ethnic clothes are out there, being worn by many cultures. Anything that is pretty will never actually go away.

Well, my particular people wear tear dresses, and those aren't a fashion statement, rather an expression of culture and pride. I wouldn't want a non-Cherokee wearing one.

I, for one, can't wait for the burkah to be worn on the catwalks in Paris, Milan, New York and Japan.

hey man, i think thats a beautiful idea. i love it when people wear unique clothes that say something about where theyre from. unfortunately it tends to be that theres just one main stream of clothes in each society. i think indian and african girls are so hot in their traditional clothes tho.. thanks for that question it was nice!

Anything that gives the average man any sense of style would be welcome.
But first we need to banish any fabric that produces static..... ;~)
