I would wrap the guitar in the box it came in. Then instead of putting the obvious guitar under the tree, I would instead get some picks, an extra set of strings and wrap them and put them under the tree. Then once the child opens them hand him/her a small box with a note inside saying look....( under your bed/in the laundry room behind the sofa.) That way the kid won't know what they are getting and recieving the picks will build up a little suspense. Obviously, tweak this plan to suit your needs, but trust me it will work.

Hide the guitar...... wrap a small box with some guitar accessories or something in it under the tree with a clue on where to find the guitar...... then it'll be a surprise.
If I was expecting a guitar or wanting a guitar for xmas, I think I'd guess if there was a big box under the tree!

Buy a leaf rake, the type with wide spaced plastic things for raking leaves. Put the fan shaped part next to the part of the guitar that has the bridge but not on the same side as the bridge. Run the handle of the rake parallel with the guitar neck. It should be longer. Wrap it so that now the shape looks like the rake. The handle of the rake that is longer than the neck of the guitar should not be wrapped so that it continues to look like a rake.

Like everyone has already said get a box. We do all kinds of things in our house when wrapping gifts to disquise it, or make it fun to unwrap. Get a BIG box and put it in there. You can check at storage places or moving companies for a really big box. Call local stores and ask if they have any and how much they are. If you can't find any, go to your local grocery store and get a bunch of good sized boxes there and get some duct tape. Make your own big box by taping them together. You can make odd shapes with them too. Like wrapping the box around the guitar and taping it.

Make a sheet of paper with a clue as to the location of the present and wrap that. (to add some weight wrap it around a brick). Hide the guitar somewhere else around the house instead of under the tree.

A couple of years ago when we purchased a guitar for our son we had the same problem. Our christmas tree was in front of a window, so our solution was we put it behind the curtain. When he opened what he thought was his last present and left the room we took it out from behind the curtain and stood it up in front of tree. He never knew it was there until he come back into the room. He was sooo surprised.

I know...Get a big box and put one of his smaller presents in it when he opens it he's probably (oh this sucks no guitar) then after all the presents are gone give him like clues to where the guitar actually is...(hide it somewhere else).

Wrap it in large-bubble wrap, disguising the neck; then, paper wrap?
