Would you have Pieterson instead of Hussey or Michael Clarke, would you have Flintoff or Symonds, choice of Panesar or Warne, go on, name your eleven?

qprfan- don't you think Stuart Clark has had a bloody good series thus far? I would easily have him in instead of Harmison

I'd have:
1) Hayden
2) Langer
3) Ponting
4) Hussey
5) Pietersen
6) Flintoff
7) Gilchrist
8) Warne
9) Lee
10) Clark (based on the series, but a top notch Harmiston or a fit Simon Jones could take this spot
11) McGrath

Disregarding injuries it would be:
1. Langer
2. Vaughan (cpt)
3. Ponting
4. Hussey
5. Pietersen
6. Flintoff
7. Gilchrist
8. Warne
9. S. Jones
10. Harmison
11. Mcgrath
Harmison especially if you have Troy Cooley coaching. Although Simon Jones looks like he wont be playing anytime soon.
However, looking down the line, say 6 months, when all the old Aussies have finally, thankfully, retired, we could be looking at:
1. Cook
2. Vaughan
3. Hussey
4. Bell
5. Pietersen
6. Flintoff
7. Read
8. S. Jones
9. Lee
10. Panesar
11. Harmison
Read gets in by default, because i havent a clue who the Aussie no.2 keeper is these days. There, that doesnt look so bad now, does it? We Englishmen have to look for consolation where we can find it.

I think Lee and Symonds aren't anything special - they might not even get into the England side! - while Langer can be fragile and Hayden isn't setting the world alight either, but England's openers haven't really pushed themselves forward.
If I was managing a combined team I'd have Flintoff for Lee, then replace Symonds with Pietersen on a seaming wicket or Monty on a flat or turning one, and put Cook in there for Hayden because he's only 21 and you have to look to the future.
Other than that, I agree it's thin pickings.

I would say the only 2 players to make the Aussie team would be Pieterson and Flintoff

you mean a full strength England side? or the one in Australia now that are without their captain (Vaughan), their opening batsman(Tresco) and one of their 1st choice bowlers (Simon Jones). and lets not forget Harmison's has just come back from injury, so has Flintoff, Giles and Anderson. anyway now thats off my chest here's my team:
1.Strauss
2.Vaughan (capt.)
3.Ponting
4.Pietersen
5.Hussey
6.Flintoff
7.Gilchrist
8.Warne
9.S.Clark
10.Harmison
11.Hoggard
there, 5 poms, 6 aussies. certainly Mcgrath would of been in there a year or 2 ago and it was a tough call between Harmi and Brett Lee but i think thats a pretty good side

pietersen would make the team a firing harmison would make it ahead of clark and likewise flintoff with symonds and hoggard ahead of lee.
yes but if harmison was firing on all cylinders like he did in the west indies a couple of years ago then he would make the team but yes on current form clark would make the 11
