I HAVE A CURRENT A/C WITH SBI. MY CLIENTS GIVE ME CHEQUE.SOMETIMES SOME CHEQUE RETURNED BACAUSE INSUFFICIENT BALANCE.MY BANK CHARGES RS.150 PER CHEQUE TO MY A/C.THE RETURNED CHEQUE IS OF A LOCAL BANK. NOT AN OUT STATION CHEQUE.WHAT IS MY FAULT?

Yes, The Norms and Guidelines of all the banks is that they can charge you on any bounced cheque.
You can do these things,
1. Ask the person who gave you the cheque to pay up the charges
2. Ask the bank manager to reverse the charges since your a prefered customer of the bank
3. Open an account in a new bank such as HDFC since they allow reversal of service and bank charges upto 2000 Rs in a year

The fault is that the cheque u deposited did not en cashed, In these circumstances both the parties pay the cheque issuer and the depositor, U can sue on the cheque issuer and claim for the charges/amounts/penalties in the consumer forum. Bank is right and the charges are mentioned in the banking schedule.
