The W rated tires are just good for "up to" that spped.
The 1st gen RX-8s are only topping out around 140 stock wise.
If you were to do some mods...youll get more low end, but to get the top end you will have to remove the speed limiter.
With the imiter gone...you could possibly get up to the 150-170 range but the stock internals probably cant handle that...so a little building will have to be done.

Botts95 --who was running high 15's and low 16's your grandma in an automatic rx8? The car runs mid 14's if you know what your doing and at worst it runs low 15's. I have not taken my car to the track yet but have raced friends in thier vtec civic hatches that have run 13.8's and they only get me by 2-3 cars which each 1/10 is one car link on average. a high 15 would be 15 car lengths or more!

If it ran low 16's a stock 126 hp civic dx would be right next to it in a race...

To answer the question the car is limited to 155 by the govern chip which I do not believe it can get to anyways with stock hp. It should hit 135-142 depending on wind and the temperature outside. Why bother worrying about that though are you on the autoban or something?

Put a greddy stage II turbo on your rotary and make 326hp at the wheels with 240 lbs tourque and then worry about how fast you can go!

The Mazda RX-8: 0-60 in 5.9 seconds. Top Speed is 155mph. Handles great. Mazda MX-5: 0-60 in just over 7 seconds. Top Speed around 140mph. Also handles very well.

Had mine up to 130mph before I chickened out (always a cop lurking, LOL) and I had lots of rpm to go... I'd ballpark it at 140-150.

speed limited at 155mph but can't really go that fast on it's own anyway due to aerodynamic drag. in actuality it only does about 135-140.
