do you think it could have worked if they all lived in big red balloon or would a freak tornado have put pay to that?

No. Big red balloon is only 4 syllables so it doesn't scan.
Anyway how would the "man who sailed the seas" have done it in a balloon?. He would have had to "sail the skies".
(It would have worked a lot better if Ringo hadn't sung it!)

they could have lived in a green manalishi...what ever that is? or in a sub strata all terrain 4 wheeled drive on mars, would it still have been a hit? it was a Beatles song in their heyday so probably....yes
