I remember Peter being asked that question on some TV show, maybe Parky, and he said no, theyre not related, they just come from the same town and share the same surname.

I don't think so....but I think Mary Kay is related to Peter Kay or maybe it's Vernon....then again perhaps it was Danny Kay that married Mary Kay and Peter was their son....I can't remember.....lol....
