Kids that age have very few means of entertaining themselves. He's not as sleepy as in the nighttime and is discovering his world during the day. In a couple of weeks, he will discover his hands and be amazed by them as well.

Your baby has a natural instinct, to eat until he is full. If he is eating, he knows where his food comes from. I was taught that the baby needed to nurse for 20mins on both sides. That was impossible for me to do. Neither of my kids were interested. My milk came out so fast, and their bellies were so small, that within 5 mins they were done. Doctors will tell you something completely different, because they dont want to get sued about having a malnourished baby. But, your baby will come to you when he is hungry. You will be unable to consol him when he is starving. As long as you feel like you have a healthy and happy baby that is all that matters. But, your baby has a survival instinct, and as long as he knows where the food comes from (which he does!! even at birth!) he will come to you when he need some! Relax!! All babies are different, and the fact that you are breastfeeding, says to me, that you are doing a great job as a mother!!! Relax, and be thankful that you dont spent 40 mins every 3hrs with a child attached to your nipples!!! I loved my quick feeders!! Enjoy this time!! I miss it terribly!

It may be temporary, but you have to protect your milk supply. If you don't already have a breast pump, go buy one. Then pump some milk after he finishes breast feeding. If you don't pump and this goes on for a few days (I don't know how many--it varies) your milk supply will start to drop off and it is a PAIN to rebuild it.
You can buy some freezer bags for the milk. Don't use the kind you find in the grocery store, you want to actually buy the kind that are for storing breast milk. Ziplocs use a type of plastic that sucks the vitamins out of the milk.
Also, find out if their are any La Leche League support groups in your area. They can be an awesome resource.

I wouldn't give up on nursing him. I WOULD not try a bottle. I would wonder if isn't ur diet. My kids did this too I, when I would eat something like cabage. Also, I wouldn't change anything like soaps etc. This might be why. Ur baby could also just have gas. If you continue to have this happen I would get some help from ur Doctor or babies doctor. Good Luck!

It sounds like he's just checking out his surroundings, looking around and not as eager or hungry as at night. Babies this age are exploring their surroundings and at night it is darker, calmer and probably quieter. TVs and other noises make him stop to listen and wants to look around. Be patient, If you are relaxed, your milk flows easier and it's easier for him to nurse.
Good Luck =)

The taste of a mother's milk is affected by what she eats; what mood she is in (they say 'Good milk comes from contented cows.') Sometimes babies just like to take a breather every so often. My son did it on occasion. I asked my obstetrician about it, he said that each baby is different.

although i didn't breastfeed, i think breastfeeding is instinctive for the baby. like somoene else mentioned. he is probably full enough. if your diet is proper and not irritating him, then i would say don't worry. when he gets to wanting more i am sure he will make it known lol

Sometimes I wondered if it could be a game they play. Could it be gas, do you burp her/him at this time? If baby is health, don't worry, sounds like he/she is getting enough.
