This could possibly work for you, go into your computer's hardware profile and look for the sound card. When you have found it delete it (I know this sounds scary, but it will work). After deleting the sound card from the hardware profile reboot your computer. During the reboot it should say "new hardware found" (this will be the sound card) and ask you if you want to install it. Let the computer install the sound card and then it is likely your speakers will work again.

May not be a problem with ur speakers but could be the sound card. Test the speakers on another device such as a hifi or another computer if they work then its definatly the sound card. May need reseated but if you have onboard sound its the motherboard. Could also be the settings in the BIOS (Is ur onboard audio on/off) First you need to test the speakers then let me know if you have a sound card??

could be unplugged. But odds are the driver got corrupted. Just go through the driver list in the hardware section of the control panel. Find the driver for your speakers and click re-install.

You might be trying to play a damaged CD or sound file.

- If you are having problems playing a CD, try a different CD.
- If you are having problems playing an MP3 or other sound file, try a different file.

If your speakers cannot play sounds from a different CD or file, try to play system sounds on your speakers.

Are your volume settings adjusted to an audible level?
Your volume might be set too low, or audio might be muted.

To check your volume settings

1. Open Volume Control.
2. Make sure that Mute all is not selected, and adjust the volume and balance controls to the levels you prefer.
3. The controls in Volume Control are different for different sound devices. If any Mute check boxes except microphone input are checked, this might be the cause of your problem. Consult your sound device documentation or contact the manufacturer for more information.

Are your speakers connected correctly?
If your speakers have cable, check the following:

- Is your power cord plugged into a working outlet?
- Is your sound cable plugged into the appropriate jack on your sound device or computer?
- Are your speakers connected to each other?
- Are your speakers turned on and is the speaker volume control adjusted to an audible level?

Different speaker sets have different cable configurations. Consult your speaker documentation to be sure of the correct configuration.

Is digital CD audio turned on or off on your CD drive?

The digital CD playback feature of Windows XP allows a CD-ROM drive to send its audio output directly to other digital devices (such as USB speakers) in digital, not analog, mode. By default, digital CD playback is turned on.

- To listen to CDs over headphones or other analog devices, digital CD playback must be turned off.
- If your computer has USB speakers and no sound device, digital CD playback must be turned on to listen to CDs.
