Why do people cuss (use profanity) so freely-especially around elderly people and young children? What happened to public respect? There was a time when you wouldn't dare use profanity around certain people, but now there is no respect for ANYBOBY. I feel this kind of foul language shows a people doesn't respect self or others. Good education or not, heavy use of profanity represents ignorance and low-self esteem. And the user is not representing himself or home rearing with honors. If the person only knew that he or she is speaking condemnation and death to their own life because there is power in what you SAY! So clean up your mouth and think twice-speak slowly with graceful words. Proverbs 18:21

Hey Khnopff71, You just dont get it, do you? Get your head out the air and see reality. We all have to live on this earth together and we should want to show all the respect due towards human decenty. What you trying to quote in the book of Matthew is correct-but don't misuse its purpose to excuse impolite behavior in public surroundings! Do you remember the scripture that speaks about not allowing foul or corrupt words come out of your mouth? Profanity is not pleasing to the ears of most decent people and certainly not to a holy God! IT'S ALL ABOUT RESPECT TOWARDS OTHERS-IS THAT SO HARD TO DO NOWADAYS?

One can only vaguely control the conduct of others. The most important lesson is, always and forever, being aware of the conduct of oneself. If one sees no one picking up litter, pick it up yourself. If no one else helps a woman across the street, do it yourself. If there is no respect in those among you, then be the respect that deserves to be.

"If you want to avoid judgement, stop passing judgement. Your verdict on others will be the verdict passed on you." Matthew Chapter 7.

who or what determines what is profane?

i know of a woman who raised her kids up to think that the words stupid or dumb were "curse" words...nevermind that some people actually ARE dumb...but hey now her kids get overly sensitive anytime they hear the words...they can give themselves a heart attack if they want to i dont care...

and with all the different languages in the world im sure we all use obscenities quite often without even knowing it...does that make it less of a "bad" word just because it is not your native language?

anyways my point is...something that we may find vulgar in our language may not be in another which confuses me profusely...

so for me most curse words are "accent" words...if you dont like it dont "curse"...

HOWEVER i do believe taking the Lord's name in vain is disrespectful...which is something i do not do...

I agree, i hate it when people of mature age use it in public Especially when kids are around. That trash should be kept in their home! Its really not cool, nor is it sexy.
