The Minister of Culture, Tessa Jowell, seems perfectly happy for the TV license to double in cost in the next 5 years. Yet, according to independent surveys, the vast majority of license payers think that the cost is already extortionate. My question is: Should politicians that do not represent our best interests* stay in office? After all isn't that their job?
*It is not in our best interests too pay whopping wages to the BBC executive or waste money on racist crap like the Eurovision Song Contest.

Good point.

Seems we just pay and pay and pay for TV in the UK.

I blame it on SKY and the muppets who pay for it.

I was shocked when i first learnt about having to or forced to pay to watch television in the U.K This is a monopoly which i thought was illegal under some rule or another. I believe the government does nothing because of the amount of funds that flow their direction as a result of this extortionate licence fee. I stopped watching t.v altogether, sold my sets and cancelled my licence. Corporate Executives and Politicians should be closely monitored and dismissed when found stealing or lying as in any other job.

Unfortunately our system of government in the UK is deeply flawed. There is little accountability so we have to put up with gibbering nitwits like Tony Blair, John Prescott and the foul Tessa Jowell

I agree with you because every year we hear that the license fee is increasing because they need extra funds and at the same time they find a way to increase the salaries of their top men. Instead of ripping us of so that they can fill their pockets the government should get them to raise the money themselves like other decent broadcasters eg Sky so that when they decide to put on bad scripted programmes like eastenders and the like then i will not feel cheated of my hard earned money. Anyway why should we have to pay for them to drive the best cars while they give us the worst service?

When were the last elections? Where are the next? So long as the labour have a clear majority in parliament, they can do whatever cr*p they wish. If you don't like it, reflect back on how come they are in power now. Do what you can to oust them next time you have an oportunity.

BTW, I doubt the tories to be much of a desirable alternative.

It is well known that the majority do not agree with TV licences, but despite our complaints, nothing is done about it. There is, however, a perfect solution, and that is for everybody to kick their teles into touch for one year...that'll show 'em.

it`s a bloody joke.it`s bad enough now paying £120 or whatever it is now for something you don`t even want and than have to pay through the nose for cable or sky and have to put up with the stupid adds. we should make them pay us to watch it .if it wasn`t for the kids i would get rid of the telly today.

The license is a tax - this is something that Greaseball Brown uses to fleece you - not to give you a right to anything.
