How about this...Parents can be most effective at helping "Jane" improve by ________ (reading to her every night, working on multiplication tables, monitor home television usage, etc.).

I would like to see something specific that I can do on my children's report card.

Good luck.

well, it is always nice for a parent to find something about their child that is good. Try your best to find some thing the child does well and put that in the report card. If you speak in positives, it is more likely the parents and the students will respond so much better to anything you put in their report card. Negatives usually get a negative response from either or both the parents and the student. If all else fails, try to at least say something about their attendence being good. I know sometimes you have to really dig to find anything good to say. But positives are really a great way to reach both parents and the child itself.

When I was in the classroom I googled "Report card comments" and ended up with a ton of suggestions.

Good luck!
