Why can't I import more than 255 fields into SQL, ACCESS, FOX PRO OR EXCEL???

Perhaps that's the maximum allowed..

255 = 2^8 - 1

It's probably a limit set by the software creators.

It's common for size limits to be 2^x -1 in computer programs.

Because you need to normalize your data. Seriously, >255 fields?
