One that worked prety well for me was telling them I got a call from "the home" and grandma had wandered off in her nightgown and I had to go help find her. that one is good for an afternoon, or a whole day off.
another one I used was good for getting me a 4 day weekend, I told the supervisor my stepson's mother had an aneurysm and I had to go watch her kids in another town while she was hospitalized. I rehearsed this oneso it sounded authentic, and called it in on her answering machine very late on a thursday night, and then called again late on monday night to say I was coming back into town and would be back at work tuesday morning.
worked like a charm because my supervisor was a gullible softie.

just sit there for an hour huffing and puffing and looking ill, until someone asks you what the matter is, then run to the loo asap, and come back out, say your feeling very sick, just pucked in the toilet, and if they are nice they will let you go home, dont go in tomorrow though because you have got the 24 hour bug ok! good luck

The old favourite, a relative has just died. i have got through a lot of grandparents in my 20 years of employment so far, not all with the same company though!
