It makes it easier for them to be dishonest online than in person... first of all you can't see their face or hear their voice, so anyone who doesn't have a pokerface may be pretty honest offline but not online, and no one can see from their typing.
Also it's often easier to get away with cheating and stuff. Even if it's a real theft, it's hard to go after someone in another country. If someone in China rips off someone in the US (or the other way around!) for a few bucks on EBay, it'd be far more expensive to go after them than the product was worth in the first place. Only for big stuff it'd be worth it; and even then it may not have any results, depending on the countries involved. Locally, you could much easier go after even a small thief.

Simple...it's easy to be anyone you want if the other person can't see you. It's not a sickness. It's just society. Not all people are dishonest but alot of them are yes. Sometimes that dishonesty isn't that...sometimes it's protection.

I think there are dishonest people on the Internet and in reality. The key to both situations is to chat and listen carefully to what the individual says before committing. Eventually the person will trip themselves up.

What we tend to do is ignore the signs,,,if your instinct tells you something is not right...then follow your gut feeling. This goes for all situations. We are all to eager to jump in head first and when the sh** hits the fan we think back and then see the signs.

Just be cautious..not paranoid...and listen

Dishonest or just having fun ? I don't think that it is a sickness. On the Internet, you can be whomever you want and say what you might not normally say to someone in person.
