Which series is truely the master of computer game's horror genre, and why?

Silent Hill is definitely a lot creepier. With Resident Evil, you kind of know what to expect, although Capcom nailed it on the head with Resident Evil 4. There were some creepy parts in that.
With Silent Hill, you get the feeling that you're never safe. The things that you see/hear in that game are meant to make you feel creeped out. You don't know what's coming next, and you get a complete sense of dread.

Silent Hill because you get this sense of hopelessness. In the first game, you start with nothing, and even if you find a weapon, you still can't use it efficiently because you're an amateur when it comes to guns. With Resident Evil, you get a gun to start with, and you don't have this sense that you're going to get killed as long as you have enough bullets.

Resident evil, especially RE4, the game is much more focused on action survivor horror, about not knowing whats goinog to happen, walking innocnetly unitl your head gets bit off hy a gigantic head parasite thet came out of nowhere.

Resident Evil
Possible reason : interesting storyline, monster quite freaking , nice graphic, and possible / believable theory of the virus that turn human into brainless zombie most important of all cute and pretty/handsome protagonist

i played both of them..
but silent hill makes me scream everytime i play it.. especially silent Hill 4!! so creepy! i cant play this on my own! yikes..
Silent hill is the best survival horror game.

i'll choose silent hill
reasons:
- Better gameplay
- Interesting puzzles/riddles
- I like the weapons
- the monsters are much scarier than Resident Evil's (SH has ghost, zombie, creepy and crawling creatures, etc)
- good plot and story
