exactly, there is not logic even to expend with any coffin since there is just bones and meat and the soul had departed already.
Set fire on the body or cremates it is more reasonable and do a srada ritual to help the soul to reach a good destination , instead of caring for a dead body.

Sometimes it's easier said than done. It's such a touchy subject because most people are so upset when a loved one dies that its' the last thing they are thinking about. They usually just want it done the best and fastest way possible and worry more about having enough money to pay for it rather than 'wasting' money. I'd rather have my coffin be cheap and have more money go into getting me a beautiful headstone so at least my family can enjoy it because they can see it. I think you basically have to put all that in writing before you die or else your family is probably going to do go ahead and do whatever they want that makes them feel better at the time. They're going to assume they have to give you the best of everything unless you state otherwise.

Hahahah. that spammer guy is back!! Anyways, I'd rather be cremated, that way no coffin is used and you protect the environment. Look at what happend in New Orleans, all those coffins and dead bodies floating around. Better to just burn the bodies and spend the money on charity. Your dead anyway!

This normally is the last respect they could afford to their loved one. We have two days to celebrate in life ie; Birthday and death-day. This remember despite school fees, food, clothing and accommodation one has contributed to the dead during the time he lived, there will be no more contribution after burial, so make as fine as you would wish. Remember God sees even what is in our hearts towards the dead and blesses us for what we mean as were are performing this. Some people eat money contributed towards the dead.. they are never blessed instead they suffer for the rest of their life. this may be extended even to their familys, grandchildren etc. Last respect matters very much

Coffins served a purpose a long time ago.
They kept the body from decomposing outside of a controlled state. Not all graveyards were able to bury people in a "six by six".
In some parts of Louisiana it is not uncommon for coffins to sometimes float out of the graveyard even to this day.
All that being said, it comes down to one of two things in my mind;
1- People want to pay the utmost respect to their deceased, and sometimes get carried away with buying 'the best' in order to 'out do' another......
2- People want to make sure that their loved one is remembered, and that can sometimes be taken to extremes even in death.

Usually its the family that spends the money. It makes you feel better to know you are getting the best for your loved one. It is a way to honor them. And honoring the one you lost provides some small measure of comfort. Though I agree it would be better put to a charitable use.

I think there's a conspiracy to recover coffins and swap handles around to change the I.D. Telly: 'Six Feet Under'. Green to recycle folk and plough them in to feed the poor.

Maybe some families do this for prestige or to show their respect and to pay tribute to the deceased person. My grandpa wanted everyone to donate to his favorite charity instead of wreaths of flowers.

I agree!!! I think its becuase ppl who sell them put the families on a guilt trip----like how much you cared about them is the measure of how much you will spend on a "luxury" coffin kind-of-thing.
