The idea of a big crunch isn't completely dead. It depended on the universe having enough mass and hence gravity to pull it all back together. This has looked unlikely since the 1980s, and even more so now that dark energy has been brought into the picture. However, it's possible that the pressure exerted by dark energy wont always be positive, so a big crunch is still a theoretical possibility.

That is just one theory, no one will know, but yes, big bang then big crunch, what happens after... no one can answer that.
