One of my students travelled there last year to give medical aid. We discussed the sanctions and their impact on the regime. It seems that for as much as they could help, they will also empower Kim Jung Il, because he controls the black market and without the influx of luxury goods, cronyism would only be reinforced, to get the status goods.

North Korea cannot threaten the world yet with nuclear devastation. The sanctions they want lifted are overseas bank accounts they we have frozen. Pyongyang has returned to the six party talks only to gain access to these accounts. It is all we have to offer them. We have all ready offered them economic and nuclear energy aid if they would not pursue the weaponization of said power. They have snubbed the offer. I am against lifting sanctions for that reason and believe we should place sanctions on the Chinese if they don't do something soon to halt Kim Jong ILL in his tracks. They can shut him down tomorrow if they choose too.

Although North Korea should be punished in some way for it's blatant disregard for global policy, sanctions and isolationism are not the answer. The problem with isolating a country like North Korea is that it enhances the ability of the government to control the media, knowledge and general views of it's public towards issues such as the governments leader, as well of the government itself. This might not seem all too important to members of a society such as the United States where the leaders are elected and public opinion can change dramatically over short periods of time, either allowing or preventing a leader from serving another term in office; but in a "communist" or communist dictatorship, things work differently. A Stalinist government such as North Korea works by what is called a personality cult. The leader of the country is "pumped-up" by the media and propaganda to the point that they appear beyond human and in some cases almost god-like. If we impose sanctions on North Korea then we only help them to control sources of information that would point to a more logical viewpoint of the countries leader. By exposing the country to outside opinions the leader ultimately becomes less infallible and more human. Another problem with isolationism is that although the leader may not feel the effects, many of the people will. NK's deteriorating economy and ineffective use of land have led to starvation, a general downward spiral in standard of living, and the death of many people. North Korean officials have already identified capitalism as a viable form of economic recovery through the creation of Special Administrative Districts like Sinŭiju along the China-North Korea border, where it is legal. (Not that I am arguing capitalism as a good form of government, I could go on for hours on the undesirable traits of it, but it is a realistic option for recovery in NK.) In short, yes we should remove sanctions, and in punishment for not following global policy we should forcefully open the country up to outside influence; whether by surreptitious means or open disregard for their trade and information laws. Hope that's short enough and sweet enough for you. Yours truly,

confident. Sanctions are no longer immoral. If different worldwide places comply with no longer commerce with you, that's their non violent option. people who help government varieties that contain voters dropping their very own freedoms often whine wnen entire worldwide places are waiting to act with autonomity. possibly you're suggesting that North Korea has a suitable to rigidity different worldwide places to do employer with it no rely if or no longer they like it or no longer. Sorry, yet no. North Korea can do regardless of it needs interior its borders yet they can't the two try this and rigidity each and every person else to help it on the comparable time.

The Sanctions need to be inforced or they must change to a tougher strategy. Also, the US is not at fault. They put the sanctions there because of the problems.

We are still at war with North Korea, there is only a cease-fire.
They are trying to bully the world, same as Iran. I say the world should not take it, because eventually one of these lunatics are going to use these weapons. Whatever we can do to prevent this will be an effort to save our own lives and millions of others. We need to stand up to the world bullies and say we're not going to take it. If we starve them to death, it will be their own fault, for keeping these leaders in power. Better them than US!
