I already know what Deja Vu is.....I'm asking why it happens.....as I said no previous connection and yet a dreamlike familiarity....obviously I dont get Deja Vu while driving my car or getting wet in the rain!I'm talking about non-existent subconscious memories....whats the deal?

Well it works like this: Say you walk into the lobby of a hotel, and you are suddenly struck with a case of deja vu. Any number of things could have set it off, but it all has to do with the hippocampus which controls memory, and spacial navigation. If for instance, the carpet was the same pattern as your grandmothers couch, you wouldn't consciously remember this, but your hippocampus would take note, and send signals to your motor functions, to see if you've been in this place before. Since the hippocampus controls long term memory, as well as spacial recognition, it doesn't like to be surprised, and it will alert your conscious mind that something is happening, it isn't specific (like, hey, doesn't that carpet look familiar?) but it just wants you to take note of your surroundings so that next time you come into contact with whatever it is that set off the initial reaction, your hippocampus will be alerted, and you'll have that memory stored.

Everyday is a deja vu for a man like me. I'm the only man in the world who has to wake up to have a nightmare....

"Already seen" is the direct translation and it suits it perfectly. Deja vu for me is just being in a situation where you've 'been there, done that' and you can see in what direction things are headed.

It means to me a feeling that I have been somewhere before, when I know that would be impossible or a feeling that I know what is going to happen before it really does. I haven't had any of these feelings in recent history.

It's a psychological phenomena. Not real. It's like a record skipping in your perceptive memory.
