A bandwagon fan is the type of person who pulls for whatever team happens to be doing well at the time. For example, there were a ton of Dallas Cowboys fans in the Aikman/Smith/Irvin era when they racked up all of those SuperBowl wins. The Yankees can be accused of having the most bandwagon fans. I see Yankee caps all over the country and when I ask the person wearing the cap a question about the team, nine out of ten times they don't even know most of the players.

Current bandwagon fans can be seen wearing Saints and Chargers paraphernalia. MLB bandwagon fans are supporting the Cards right now, and a few new Cubs fans have popped up since Soriano was picked up by them.

A fan that changes colors to support a team that is winning. For example, 2005 postseason, I live in Chicago and the Sox were in the playoffs. I couldn't believe how many so-called Cubs fan turned and went to the dark side. All you saw was White Sox stuff, it was disgusting.

It means people who just side with the team favored to win, only because they are winning. But it doesn't mean not liking a team anymore because the players who made that team great have left...that's called nostalgia.
