I suppose it depends where you live but the going rate around this area (Gloucestershire) is £5.00 an hour.
Happy Christmas to you and your 4 great kids. I bet they are getting excited.

Do you feel you pay to much? Do you feel that the care the children recieve during the time they are in the care of the sitter suitable? Is the person someone you trust? How old is the youngest? If the youngest is almost still classed as a baby, then maybe one sitter for all 4 kids isn't enough, maybe they dont give each child the attention they need whilst mummy and daddy are out. If so , then maybe leaving the baby with family would ensure proper care of the others. How long do you go out? Do you feel that the amount you spend for the sitter is of a decent percentage of what the night out cost, and in comarrison to the amount of times per month or year that you go out?

Sorry for all the questions, but I am hoping that by asking these, you will see that only you and your partner can decide if it is an acceptable amount.

If I was the sitter and you went out fairly frequently, with my self being the preffered sitter for the children, I would consider reducing the rate. Babysitting isnt all about how much you make a night, it is about ensuring the children get the care and attention the require whilst the parents are out, and that they are a trusted person to the family, and that they can act appropriately if an accident occured.

We have 2 kids and we pay ours £5 per hour. I didn't know you paid more if you had more kids... Do you mean a babysitter in the evenings when the kids are asleep? If so you are being well ripped off!!!

We pay $23 a day for daycare for one 2yr old. Depends on how many hours are the children actually up while you are away? And are you providing the Dinner for the children prior to leaving; do you provide dinner for the sitter? I would say $35 is very fair if the sitter is up with the children for more than 2 hours playing games with them. There is no price to high though when it comes to my child's safety and well being.

You're trusting someone with your 4 kids for the night. one kid can be difficult sometimes, so for looking after 4 for a few hours i reckin £35 is a fair price.

I pay £5 per hour but it does vary on whether the children are in bed or up and require supervision

Sounds about right for the number of kids.
