Hello,

I think if you go back to the Grisoft website and look again at what is says. I think you will find that its only AVG Free version 7.1 that is being discontinued.

AVG Free (new version) version 7.5 continues to be free into 2007 and beyond. Have another look at whats being said on there website, I think you will find I'm correct.

Personally, I like AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

AOL AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb)

And it updates 15 to 20 times a day with new virus definitions, 7 days a week.

Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:

yes Download avast! from www.avast.com its free and the user functions are almost the same as the professional edition which you have to pay for. Free one require a valid email address and they will send you a key to register your home edition. Also if you more than 1 computer in your house i would recommend using your secondary email address to recieve a second key

Old versions of the program are coming up with this, just go to the site and get the new version. There was a major version update and that's why.

You must have version 7.1 (or so), which warns that IT will expire in Jan - but (as others have said) you can just upgrade to the just-as-free 7.5.

One gotcha is that you have to do a "repair install" to upgrade.

You can still get AVG free, they do this every so often. If you go on their site you can download 7.5 for free. I have done it already and I havent paid a penny.
