I think it's painful to hear all these cliches repeated. Once somebody has said it once, why can't we just revert to "old-fashioned"?

I take the point about possible negative connotations in "old-fashioned" though sometimes that can be positive too - like "old-fashioned hospitality" sounds like you will be treated well and courteously - presumably "new-fashioned" would be treated badly and discourteously.

It's okay to hear this word applied to music, but these cliches start to pop up everywhere. Don't people think for themselves?

I think "old fashioned" has negative connotations, but "old school" has a cool edge to it, a sort of back to basics feeling I guess. It means the same as retro or vintage, but is really associated more with music, particularly hip hop. Someone who is referring to influences from the 80's music scene is not going to say they used old fashioned music, its just not cool.

Its a trend, a change in culture and society.

The majority of these sayings are taken from films or music, give it a few months and there will be the next "cool" or "hip" thing to say! It changes, as do clothes fashions and music.

Especially with the younger generation, once they start using these phrases they become habit, almost like profanity!

It's true, 'proper English' is now a thing of the past.

It's worse than that. A few times recently I have heard people say something like "He is Old School but he's also cutting edge", thus combining TWO cliches.

"Back in the day", we never used to say that!!!

Well we must adjust to the times, our parents didn't like the cliches we used, and don't say you didn't, now it is our children's turn to have there own. It's no big deal , there are worse things to worry about, again, try to remember your youth then you can understand today's youth and not be so shocked...

It can be very true at times. Makes for the fact that most people are really not interested in the truth a lot. They just want to spin.

You can say old fashioned, I do, however many choose to say old school and that should be acceptable also. It is a generalizational term, slang. There is no harm in it. God bless****

haaa well my opinion.. people get sooo use to hearing slang or slurred words, like arentcha..that we are just use to it. our kids say it and adults use it, just because it one of those idiotic things that made its way in our language.like the word "MAD" i hear allot, such as, Wow that cake was mad good, meaning that they enjoyed the cake..and to them saying MAD is allot easier then saying , thanks the cake was great, or that cake tasted wonder full. very rarely you hear people speaking proper grhammer,i guess we will all live with it, and with a younger generation ahead we will hear more and more slang, or slurred words in the future..

I'm with you. I prefer not to be one of the sheep. My cliches are bad, but they are mine alone.
