Hi, ive got a job interview on wednesday for a sport and physical activity officer, (incase your not sure what one of them does - they try and get more people in the community involved in sport through new opportunities/projects etc)
Any way its my first professional job interview so im obviously nervous and dont really have a clue what to expect or how to conduct myself
If anyone has any tips to help me have a good interview they would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Think about how and why you could help the particular community you are in. What special needs does that paricular community have. You need to demonstrate that you will not discrimminate against any sections of society and in fact will actively encourage them.

Make sure you wear something suitable. would suggest a suit and tie. (Assumning you are male) Shake hands in a confident way, maintain eyecontact and if you are being interveiwed by more than one person, make sure you have eyecontact with all of them at some point.

Good luck

Hello,

Here are some of my tips & comments, I really hope they might be of use too you.

No.1 remember any formalised job interview is a very artifical situation (outside of normal life) and so you might feel nervous but so might the people interviewing you too.

No.2 Its normal to have some interview nervous but its only a question of NOT allowing your nervousness to get in the way of thinking clearly and giving intelligent answers to any questions being asked.

No.3 Listen very carefully & Think before you give an answer, Dont just give snap responses.

No.4 Success!! in interviews is a balance between showing genuine interest in the position but NOT come across as desperate or apearing utterly desperate for this job (like the rest of your entire life depended upon it). Show a positive attitude, show interest and what you can offer but dont be desperate at the same time.

No.5 An interview is actually a two way process, DONT think its only you who are being interviewed. You should think about any questions you have about the job itself.

No.6 DONT leave your own questions to the end of the interview becuase if you do that, you often find they've run out of time to give you the answers you might need.

No.7 Ask your own questions as you go along during the interview that way the interviewer/s wont be doing all the hard work.

No.8 DONT let the interviewers dominate the entire interview, or do all the question asking, you should ask your own questions as you go along being proactive. This often comes across very well to interviewers, especially if its done with confidence or in an appropriate way. It can positively impress the interviewers.

Good Luck!! IR

Think about what they might ask you, and have some answers ready. Standard questions are things like "can you give me an example of when you've had to work in a team?".

What are your strengths and weaknesses? They will almost certainly ask this. Try and make your weakness as strength - I always say "I find it dificult to say no and sometimes take on more work than I can handle". They love this.

Think about the job itself and the specific questions they will ask. Write down the answers so you can recall them at the interview.

They're going to ask you if you have any questions. Make sure you have some, as it makes you appear interested. Is this a new role, or are you replacing someone? Could they describe a typical day? Will you be office based, or visiting projects? How closely do you work with X team or X person? etc etc.

If you have a chance, try doing a practice interview with a mate if you think it might give you more confidence.

General advice:
Don't be late. Better to be over-smart than too scruffy. If in doubt, wear a suit anyway.

- make a list of at least 10 things you will expect them to ask you, and have an answer ready. It looks good if they can see that you made some conciderations and did not just randomly apply for the job.

- Stay calm, it is ok to be nervous, just don´t try to compensate by being overly eager, it gives a superficial and not very serious impression.

- be your self! It is ok to make the thruth seem at bit better than it is, but dont try to look like somebody you are not. Remember, a jobinterview goes both ways, it is also an opurtunity for you to see if the job is what you excpect. Show interest.

- i wish you all the luck in the world!! You got a Yahoo-gang supporting you!

l was accepted for a job 5 days ago. Try some of these.

Arrive 15 minutes early.
Dress smart.
Don't take too long replying the answer but think before you answer.
Look the interviewer in the eye so you seem interested in what they're saying.
Smile alot.
When you leave, shake their hand out of politeness.

Most of all do your homework, study everything about the topic so when they ask you the questions you will be ready with a answer.

One of the most common questions is why you want a job with them.
GOOD LUCK!!!
