Honestly, tell me how many of you understand Vande mataram or Jana gana mana adhinayak...On the other hand, "Sarey Jahan se Accha, hindustan hamara" is well understood by everyone..Nehru was actually in favor of making it our national anthem, but sardar patel and the likes of him interfered...(just because the poet who wrote this was a Muslim)....

When Rakesh Sharma went into space, Indira Gandhi had asked him :
"How does our India look like from up there"?..to which Rakesh replied: "Sare Jahan se accha, hindustan hamara"...

Garner a majority and then get it changed....
But then, don't we have the ability to accept anything that is fairly reasonable as a token of our loyalty ? Which is more important.... what we contribute for the nation or what we choose to sing about our nation ? Well those who desire to slog would have no problems ! Everybody around is glad and keen to have a fool who can unconditionally toil , and yet sustain such debates !

I agree with you. But, the Government will not change it now. Present, National Anthem, as such, was 1st created by Shri Rabindranath Tagore, as a welcome song, for King George's visit, to India. The problem is, the main political parties, Congress, CPM and BJP, would not agree, for different reasons. Congress because, it was the initiator, Shri Jawahar Lal Nehru, chose it. CPM, because it Bengal centric and will in no case go against Guruji. BJP because Shri Sardar Patel like views, on this matter.
