A man who grew up in Norwich was today arrested for the murder of all five prostitutes in Ipswich.
The man is believed to be 37-year-old supermarket worker Tom Stephens - who yesterday insisted he was innocent in an interview with a Sunday newspaper.
He was arrested at his home in Trimley, near Felixstowe, Suffolk, at 7.20am today and is being held at an unnamed police station in Suffolk, where he was due to be questioned later today.
His home was just two miles from where the bodies of Paula Clennell and Annette Nicholls were discovered.
The announcement about the arrest was made in a surprise Suffolk police press conference at 9.30am.
Detective Chief Superintendent Stewart Gull said: “A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering all five women, Gemma Adams, Tania Nicol, Anneli Alderton, Paula Clennell and Annette Nicholls.
“The man is currently in custody at a police station in Suffolk where he will be questioned about the deaths later today.”

A Justice of the Peace granted bail to the accused, ought to he have the means to acquire $900,000.00 surety - plus different circumstances consisting of surrendering passport, reporting to police two times on a regular basis, & so on. he continues to be at the back of bars, by using fact the prosecution appealed the Justice of the Peace's selection. the project would be dealt with, next week, in the preferrred court docket. The Justice of the Peace made the selection based on the very incontrovertible fact that the prosecution would not have a reliable case against the accused.

Someone on the radio said it could be a priest or a policeman. One policeman phoned up and took exception to this. This guy who was arrested was a special constable once. Makes you think doesn't it.

I just hope they have the right man and do not feel 'the need' to rig the evidence to get someone to satisfy the needs of our wonderful responsible 'free' press.

He had already been questioned 4 times about them, perhaps the police got some additional evidence, he was obviously high on their list of suspects.

Hopefully it is him and he gets the punishment that suits the crime, but then murdering 5 young woman, what punishment would suffice, death would be to nice, something with extreme pain would suffice.
