Twice now I have closed my eyes and seen a green light in a circle shape... anyone else had this happen to them? both times it happened I was very exhausted, lacking energy. Any insight would be appreciated. Have a pleasant day.

Yes- what you are experiencing is very common- almost to the point of universality among sighted people (and maybe amongst the blind).
Yes, you are sane, what you are seeing is in fact real.
You are experiencing "phosphenes":
a sensation of light caused by excitation of the retina by mechanical or electrical means rather than by light, as when the eyeballs are pressed through closed lids.
Most are 'pressure phosphenes', from rubbing closed eyes. The pressure mechanically stimulates the cells of the retina- thus you experience a sight.
Experiences include a darkening of the visual field that moves against the rubbing, a diffuse coloured patch that also moves against the rubbing, a scintillating and ever-changing and deforming light grid with occasional dark spots (like a crumpling fly-spotted flyscreen), and a sparse field of intense blue points of light.
Pressure phosphenes can persist briefly after the rubbing stops and the eyes are opened, allowing the phosphenes to be seen on the visual scene.
Another common phosphene is "seeing stars", from a sneeze, blow on the head or low blood pressure (such as on standing up too quickly or prior to fainting). It's possible these involve some mechanical stimulation of the retina, but they may also involve mechanical and metabolic stimulation of neurons of the visual cortex or of other parts of the visual system.
all of the above was actually from:

Phosphene- it's your word for the day!

Yes, in fact if you learn to meditate under certain methods, the way to know that you are there is that you see the green light. This is a healing light which should help your body to heal itself through relaxation and meditation. The other colours are supposed to mean other things, but I can't remember what, I think purple is mental stress and red is emotional anxiety, I have been using this system for about six years now and I feel a lot better for it, I just look for the green lights before I go to sleep and I sleep better and I am more focused in the morning.
Take care

Sounds like hypoxia to me. Were there any other symptoms? So far we have exhaustion and seeing lights. These are both symptoms associated with hypoxia / anoxia / oxygen starvation. This might be the direct cause of your problem if for instance you've over-done it whilst exercising, or it might indicate another problem for example anaemia of some kind. If you continue to suffer these symptoms, definitely get it checked out by a medical professional.
Good luck. and Merry Christmas!

i did experiment when i was kid - look at the light, close your eyes then you should see a green/blue image. its just the light burned on to your retina. if this aint it. take to a doctor.
