I like the way Directors used the effects of light and shadow in the oldie goldie black and white movies. Its not possible to achieve that effect in colour. Also the heroines of yesteryears like Nutan ans Vyajantimala looked really pretty in black and white but not that great in colour films...

I don't approve much of colorizing films. The films were designed to be seen a specific way, in black and white. By adding color to the films you do not see the effect of the cinematography as clearly and someone other than the director is adding the color. The effect you are getting is not what was originally intended. People that care about the craft of filmmaking wouldn't touch colorized films with a ten-foot pole!

Changing a black and white movie to colour is a very long, tedious and costly project. Converting m-e-a took 2 years and cost more than the budgets of most new movies at a figure of approx 15 crores. but it was also a safe bet considering the fact that m-e-a still lives on in the hearts and minds of a lot of ppl.Hardly any other black and white movie can be expected to earn enough money to make up on the costs.

A masterpiece is always a masterpiece no matter its been in colour or black and white. You might have been noticed, the Magul E Azam was seen much more numbers of times than its being seen now in coloured. Second reason I believe there are hardly any fan of Old master piece in new young generation.
